Report..
An expected session will be held to elect a new Speaker of the House of Representatives, after reaching an agreement on one Sunni candidate.
This development has sparked excitement and tension in political circles, as prominent candidates are competing for this sensitive position, namely Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani and Salem Al-Issawi. Despite the initial consensus on Al-Mashhadani, the situation remains fraught with fierce competition between these candidates.
While the political arena seems to be on fire, sources close to the Sunni blocs confirmed that setting a date for the session without full consultation with the Sunni political forces, which hold the majority in parliament, may complicate the election process and provoke resentment among some blocs.
Speaking about this file, a number of Sunni alliance leaders warned the dismissed Mohammed al-Halbousi against obstructing the next session to resolve the crisis of electing a parliament speaker.
Member of the Sovereignty Alliance, Abdul Hamid Al-Hamad Al-Dulaimi, said in a statement that “the dismissed Mohammed Al-Halbousi is playing on two tracks by preventing his representatives and those allied with him from other parties from attending the sessions of the House of Representatives to choose a new speaker for the council, using the weapon of threatening to reveal corruption files of some members of the council and forcing them to obey his orders, especially from the Sunni parties.”
Al-Dulaimi added that “the second path of the deposed president’s plan is to deceive others from the Sunni alliances and other parties by not entering the parliament session under the pretext of the existence of agreements that lead to choosing a consensual alternative from their parties,” indicating that “Al-Halbousi informed the Sunni alliances that the Progress Alliance will withdraw from the next session if guarantees are not given to vote for his candidate Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani by the Sunni and Shiite alliances.”

In this regard, the leader of the Coordination Framework, MP Amer Al-Fayez, confirmed that the Acting Speaker of Parliament, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, is conducting intensive contacts with the Sunni parties to accept the invitation of the Coordination Framework to hold a session to elect a new Speaker of Parliament next Saturday.
Al-Fayez said in a statement, “The leaders of the Coordination Framework discussed in detail the crisis of the vacancy of the position of Parliament Speaker and their keenness to overcome this obstacle that has lasted a long time without the Sunni forces agreeing on a candidate for the position.”
He added, "The Coordination Framework blocs, during the past period, held many dialogues with the Sunni political forces in order to end the crisis, but the response was not complete, which prompted the framework to set a session to elect the Speaker of Parliament next Saturday."
He pointed out that "Al-Mandlawi is trying to convince the Sunni parties to attend the session called for by the framework next Saturday."
During a meeting held last Monday evening, attended by Al-Sudani, the Coordination Framework called on members of the House of Representatives to hold a meeting next Saturday to decide on the presidency of the council and put an end to the vacancy of this important position throughout the past period. End 25 min
