The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs revealed the expansion of its plan to include new categories in soft loans, by including people with disabilities and residents of remote areas among the categories benefiting from these loans, as part of its steps to reduce the phenomenon of unemployment.
The ministry’s spokesman, Najm Al-Aqabi, said, “The ministry has formed volunteer teams to follow up on the ‘I am Aqdar’ initiative launched by the Minister of Labor, Ahmed Al-Asadi, to support people with disabilities by granting them loans to establish income-generating projects and involving them in mixed-sector companies, in addition to appointing 5 percent of this category in government departments in coordination with the Federal Service Council, in addition to granting loans to residents of remote areas, and providing possible facilities to borrowers in those areas, in implementation of the government program’s components to simplify and facilitate procedures.”
He added that "the ministry is continuing the process of granting soft loans to job seekers registered in the database, to support their small income-generating projects, as well as organizing free courses to develop their technical skills and provide them with the experience that will help them integrate into the labor market," according to the official newspaper "Al-Sabah."
Al-Aqabi pointed out that “there is a serious trend by the ministry to make legislative amendments regarding the labor and loan laws, in a manner that is consistent with the nature and situation of the beneficiaries of its services, as it is the party concerned with reducing the unemployment rate for job seekers, by involving them in various free training courses, both scientific and professional, which they obtain in vocational training centers spread across Baghdad and the governorates, which qualify them for employment in the private sector or by granting them soft loans to establish their own projects to enter the labor market.”
He pointed out that “the agreement with the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers to cooperate with the (Riyada) initiative, in order to follow up on the projects established within the initiative, in addition to the possibility of embracing innovative projects presented through it, by providing a distinguished service to the target groups with entrepreneurial loans to establish their own projects, provided that they are real projects on the ground and contribute to revitalizing the national economy.”
