    Water
    resources Minister Mohand Al-Saadi said Iraq still suffers from the
    effects of large walarwaaeh storage projects by riparian States, saying
    they did not take into consideration the interests of Iraq.

    Saadi
    said in a speech on his behalf by the Ministry's Adviser, Salar Baker
    during his meeting Samy, the Executive Office of the Arab Ministers of
    water resources yesterday in Cairo that "projects and dams on the Tigris
    and Euphrates of riparian States requires coordination and joint action
    in accordance with the principles and norms of international law,
    particularly the Convention on the use of non-navigational uses of
    international watercourses of 1997 adopted by most of the world."

    Called
    "Arabic States that have not ratified the Convention to complete the
    number needed for its entry into force", pointing out that "the issue of
    water is major Arab issues with most of the Arabic of shortages," he
    said, adding that "climate change affecting the region Arabic led to add
    new burdens."

    He noted "the importance of water security
    strategy in the Arabic region to face future challenges adopted Arabic
    Summit held in Baghdad in March last year, in addition to the drafting
    and preparation of the draft Convention common Arabic water aimed at
    developing a legal framework on surface and groundwater".

    Water
    resources Minister called "the need to deepen Arab cooperation in the
    field of water, both in the various technical aspects or concerning
    legal issues of integrated water management through the establishment of
    joint training programmes for workers in these areas for the purpose of
    exchanging experiences and enhancing the skills of people working in
    this sector."

    said the Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Affairs
    University Arabic Ambassador Dr. Muhammad Ibn ibraaheem Al-tuwayjri,
    that "the meeting discussed a number of important subjects in particular
    follow-up to the implementation of the mandates of the Arabic
    development Summit: Economic and social development held in Sharm
    el-Sheikh in January 2011 after the adoption of the regional water
    security strategy Arabic to meet future requirements for sustainable
    development, in addition to the preparation of a draft operational
    programme for item (protection of water rights Arabic) ".

    The

    Al-tuwaijri
    said that the meeting also discussed strengthening the negotiating
    capacities of the Arabic States on shared water resources with non-Arab
    States, as well as support for the management of shared water resources
    in productive uses such as power generation, irrigation and salinity
    management and wetlands, as well as follow-up to the draft law of
    transboundary aquifers for meetings held at the United Nations ".
