In the business world, companies go out of their way so that they do not alienate their customers. It’s just bad for business, and in the end can cost you a lot of money.
In the Hollywood world, alienating your customers is something you’ll likely not suffer for, and so actors and actresses tend to do so with abandon. In this latest video by W Magazine, some of Hollywood’s A-listers decided to perform Gloria Gaynor’s Motown hit “I Will Survive,” in honor of President-elect Donald Trump’s swiftly approaching inauguration.
“This is going to be interesting,” says actor Andrew Garfield. “It may get too real.” With the inauguration fast approaching, an all-star cast of Hollywood celebrities come together to improvise the 1979 hit “I Will Survive.” Among those channeling their inner Gloria Gaynor are Emma Stone, Natalie Portman, Amy Adams, Matthew McConaughey, Chris Pine, Hailee Steinfeld, Felicity Jones, and Taraji P. Henson, the stars of the season’s finest films, and of W’s annual Best Performances portfolio.
Reading the comments of this video on its YouTube shows that many of the viewers did not appreciate this video as well as they may have hoped. In fact, as of this writing, the thumbs up vs thumbs down are very close.
This wasn’t the first anti-Trump celebrity video, and it surely won’t be the last. So far we’ve seen celebrities make videos pleading with congress to block Trump’s nominees, and even one to beg the electoral college to not vote for Trump.
