The NHL on FOX infamously gave fans "FoxTrax", better known as the "glowing puck". There was another wrinkle to the whole project, when a player took a shot and it flew through the air at more than 70 miles per hour, it turned molten red, and it was accompanied by a comet tail. Whoosh! Ryan Pulock was a few months away from turning four years old when FOX last used it in 1998. Pulock has brought back the molten red, without the use of "FoxTrax".

Pulock's numbers this season with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers are impressive, nine goals and nine assists in 24 games. His second goal of last night's win against Springfield gave Bridgeport their ninth win in the last ten games. His 0.75 points per game ranks 11th for AHL defensemen who have played at least 20 games.

However there is a number that goes against Pulock, seven. I'm not talking about teammate Devon Toews, seven refers to the number of healthy defensemen who are currently ahead of the 2013 15th overall pick on the Islanders depth chart. That has to change immediately.

Pulock provides such a weapon that cannot be kept in Bridgeport. The Islanders power play ranks 26th in the league with 15.4 success rate. Pulock's presence would strengthen the second unit.

Would he help defensively? Well he would not hurt the Islanders at the moment as New York has allowed 15 goals in the last three games. The knock on him as with most young defensemen is his skating. He has improve on it as well as his defensive positioning, also something that has plagued the Islanders as of late.

The offensive contributions from the defensemen not named Nick Leddy have been minimal.
Dennis Seidenberg has cooled down since his hot streak at the beginning of the season where he scored four games in seven games. He has not scored since November 3.

It's time for the NHL to experience "molten red" again.
