The Wild have their first losing streak in four months and have now dropped 3 of their last 4. They still, however, hold a one point lead in both the Central Division and Western Conference, thanks to Anaheim and their 1-0 victory over Chicago last night.

Yes it is a mini slump for the Wild, but no time to panic. This team has shown that they are resilient and can bounce back as they have all season long.

Hockey is a funny game at times, and very difficult to figure out why teams that are normally very good, have trouble finding the back of the net for extended periods of time. Confidence is a huge factor in hockey and it can come and go at any time, and without notice.

The Wild when they were on top of their game played with a confidence level that made them tough to beat on almost every night. The last several games that swagger has been missing along with the attention to detail.

They appear to be taking an extra second before shooting pucks or making plays and that is never good in hockey. The game is too fast and the lanes and holes do not stay open very long. Those extra split seconds alow defenders to close gaps and lanes, and goalies to get square and close holes, making it seem next to impossible to score.

The Wild need to simplify the game again, stop looking for the perfect play and just get pucks to the net with traffic. The effort needs to be ratcheted up several notches as well. Right now the Wild are not very difficult to play against. They are not controlling the boards like they should, and they are giving up the prime ice way too easily.

Tonight will be another test as the Pahthers, much like the Lightning last night, are fighting for their playoff lives. This Florida team is a lot better than the team the Wild handled rather easily back in December 5-1, while the Wild were in the midst of their 12 game win streak. Jonathan Huberdeau who missed the first four months of the season, is back and Aleksander Barkov along with, 2010 Mr. Hockey MN, Nick Bjugstadt are all in the Panther lineup together now following lengthy absences due to injury. Former Wild and Gopher winger Thomas Vanek, was acquired by Florida from Detroit at the trade deadline giving the Panthers an added goal scoring threat.

The path will not be easy for the Wild, but the road may be just what the team needs to pull them together with just one month left in the season. It is a marathon not a sprint, and the Wild have put themselves in a very good position. One in which they control their own destiny. Tonight is big for Minnesota, they need to get back to their game from the net out, limiting Panther scoring opportunities, while countering with speed and quick puck movement. Strength along the wall and controlling the faceoff circle will go a long way in getting the team back on track and back in the win column.

It's always Hockey Day in the State of Hockey!
