A major nor'easter threatens to shut down travel due to heavy snow and strong winds from Washington, D.C., to New York City and Boston early this week.
The snowstorm will first continue to bring snow and travel problems in the Midwest through Monday.
A storm will rapidly strengthen and track within a couple of hundred miles of the east coast of the U.S. spanning Monday night to Tuesday night. For many areas in the Northeast, this will likely be the biggest and most impactful storm of the winter, according to accu weather.
Meanwhile the crazy weather continues north of the border as a blizzard raged for nearly 60 hours on the Hudson Bay late last week
The town of Churchill, Man., on the shores of Hudson Bay, experienced a blizzard of that length -- four hours shy of the longest-ever blizzard recorded there -- over the past few days.
The storm that produced it featured winds up to 120 km/h and, when it was over, dropped some 60 cm on the small community of fewer than a thousand people.
Last night, St. John's International Airport, Newfoundland and Labrador stated the airport facilities received significant damage during the windstorm that affected the region during the last few days. An electrical component in the airport's terminal electrical room was damaged.

The potential historic storm should land on the north east coast Tuesday through to Wednesday and promises to be a record breaker. The storm will batter New England and the north east with heavy blizzards and powerful winds. More than a foot of snow can be expected with damaging and prolonged north east winds and serious east coast flooding.
For thousands of miles of roads in the region, this will be an unusually cold storm for the middle of March.
Much of the snow that falls will accumulate on the roads.
In Charlotte, North Carolina highs were in the 60s F and 70s F last week, but a dramatic temperature drop covered parts of the southern United States in snow.
"Highs for this upcoming Wednesday and Thursday temperatures may not get out of the 40s with lows in the 20s when the peak of the arctic air will hit.
Average highs during mid-March are in the mid-60s with lows near 40 F," Brett Rathbun AccuWeather Meteorologist said.
Based on that information, temperatures will be nearly 20 degrees below normal.
It is not unusual for this arctic air to get as far south as the southern United States in March. "Temperatures have dipped into the teens and 20s but many of these record-low temperatures were set in the late-1800s and 1900s," Rathbun said.

Several ducks found dead in Bihu Park in Taipei's Neihu District on Wednesday last week were infected with the highly pathogenic avian influenza A virus subtype H5, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) confirmed yesterday, adding that the virus is being examined to identify if it is the H5N6 strain, which can infect humans.
The ducks were found by passers by, the Taipei Animal Protection Office said, adding that it notified the Animal Health Research Institute, which collected the dead birds and conducted tests on them. Preventive measures, such as washing and disinfection, were immediately taken within a 3km radius of the spot where the birds were found, and two poultry farms near the park were inspected, the office said, adding that the Taipei Park Administration Office yesterday increased the number of personnel patroling the parks in the city.
The Animal Protection Office urged people to avoid feeding or coming into contact with birds, and not to pick up dead birds call, but to call city's 1999 hotline to report a case.
CDC Deputy Director-General Philip Lo said that although the high-risk area in and around the park has been disinfected, people should not touch the soil and stay clear of the pond in the park, and thoroughly wash their hands with soap after visiting the park.
People should not panic about dead birds found in parks, but they should not feed birds or touch bird droppings, especially during the bird flu season, Lo said.
The Taipei Department of Health said it will monitor the condition of five people who came in contact with the dead ducks until March 20, Lo added.
The Taipei Department of Environmental Protection yesterday said people who feed wild birds and cause environmental pollution could face a fine of between NT$1,200 and NT$6,000 if they do not stop feeding the animals after an initial warning.

Mexico’s majestic Popocatepetl volcano erupted early yesterday afternoon (March 11), in a dramatic show of ash, water vapour and gas.
The dramatic eruption at 6:42 pm local time (12:58 GMT) spewed ash over the nearby city of Puebla, causing the local airport to halt operations from dawn until 2:00 pm local time (20:00 GMT), said Mexico’s disaster relief body in a news release.
The Popocatepetl volcano is one of Mexico's most active volcano and last erupted on January 17th 2017.
