Federal Minister of the Interior, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, announced on Tuesday that the ministry had issued about 40 million national cards to citizens by accelerating the pace of work in this field during the past period, stressing that the ministry had completed 90 percent of the electronic passport project.
This came in an interview he gave to a number of media outlets on the sidelines of his visit to Najaf Governorate and supervising the progress of the “Eid al-Ghadir” visit.
The minister said in his statement, “We are about to cross the threshold of issuing 39 million national cards, which have been completed throughout Iraq,” adding: We have a contract to develop the national card and approve it in all electronic governance procedures in place by the Iraqi government.
He added, "With regard to the issue of the electronic passport, we have made great strides in it, and we have opened 90 percent of the offices located inside and outside Iraq."
Al-Shammari continued to say that the ministry "will provide many facilities in citizens' transactions by confirming citizens' civil numbers with the residence card."
