Baghdad - Mawazine News
Fadi Al-Shammari, the political advisor to the Prime Minister, revealed, today, Monday, new details regarding the Basra-Aqaba pipeline project, which is intended to connect Iraq with Jordan.
Al-Shammari said in a televised interview followed by Mawazine News, “The Basra-Haditha pipeline project was proposed during the time of al-Maliki when he visited Jordan, and the Basra-Haditha pipeline project entered the technical preparation stage in Al-Abadi’s government.”
He added, "Abdul Mahdi's government proceeded with the Basra-Oqba pipeline project at the same pace," explaining that "the objection to the Basra-Haditha pipeline project concerns the 'project model' and not the project itself."
Al-Shammari pointed out that "the Iraqi government refused to refer the Basra-Haditha pipeline project through investment, so it modified the requirements and vision of the project and is the one who will implement it since it is a sovereign subject. The current government, as well as previous governments, also sought to diversify oil export outlets."
Al-Mishtar stated, "Iraq now has one port for exporting oil, as well as the Ceyhan port pipeline, which is currently closed. Any problem that may occur in the Gulf will affect Iraq's oil exports, as it is the only port for exporting Iraqi oil to the world."
He pointed out that "the completion of the Basra-Haditha pipeline is considered an important and essential part of the plans of the distribution and export system for the infrastructure of the Ministry of Oil, especially since the new refineries that were established in the southern governorates (Nasiriyah, Samawah, Najaf, Karbala, Babil) in addition to the northern refineries, “You need crude oil, which will be supplied to these refineries through the Basra-Haditha pipeline.”
Al-Shammari stated that “electrical projects, some of which have been opened and others will be completed in the coming years, will supply fuel from the same proposed pipeline, and the Basra-Haditha pipeline, which will branch out to the coastal city of Tartous in Syria and to the Jordanian port of Aqaba in future stages to find new export outlets for Iraq.” He also stressed that “Iraqi oil is sold to Jordan at the official price, and everything circulated in the yellow media has no truth.”
