German President: Erdogan exposes Turkey's success

In his first speech as president of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier issued a sharp warning to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan that he risks all his country's achievements in recent years and damaged relations with his partners.
Turkey is in a row with Germany and other European countries because of Turkish officials' attempts to promote among the Turks living in these countries a referendum that gives Erdogan greater powers.
"Our view of Turkey is concerned that everything has been built over the years and decades is collapsing," Steinmeier said in a speech marking his inauguration as president.
"President Erdogan is putting all his intentions with others at risk," he said, adding that he "welcomes any credible signs of easing the situation."
He continued, "Stop the analogies of Nazism that can not be mentioned, do not cut ties with those who want to partner with Turkey, and respect the rule of law and the freedom of the media and journalists."
Turkey has repeatedly accused Germany of using Nazi methods to prevent Turkish ministers from holding public meetings and provoked Germany's anger at the detention of Turkish-German journalist Deniz Yogel.
