A US naval vessel fired warning shots at an Iranian vessel near the northern Arabian Gulf after the ship reached 150 meters, a US official said Tuesday.
The official told Reuters that the stunned plane fired warning shots after the Iranian ship ignored radio contact attempts.
The US official confirmed that the Iranian boat was carrying a weapon.
The head of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, General Mohammad Ali Jafari, said earlier that the United States should move its bases 1,000 kilometers from Iran if it wants to impose sanctions on Tehran.
He added that Iran's missile capabilities can not be subject to any negotiations, stressing that Iran's missile capabilities in the air, sea and land are increasing at a rapid pace and that the development of these capabilities is one of the principles of the Iranian state.
