CNPC: China's energy demand will peak in 2040
China's state-run National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) forecast on Wednesday that China's energy consumption will peak at 4.06 billion tons of oil equivalent by 2040.
The new forecast comes late from last year's estimates and at a higher level of demand. The figures came in the company's annual long-term energy outlook report.
Last year's report forecast peak demand in 2035 at 3.75 billion tonnes of oil equivalent.
On Wednesday, the company expected demand in the world's second-largest economy to reach 690 million tonnes per year by 2030 compared with last year's estimates of 670 million tonnes per year by 2027.
