    [rtl]The defense ministers of Japan and South Korea have warned that North Korea's weapons programs pose an "unprecedented and serious threat" to their country's security .[/rtl]
    [rtl]The two Asian ministers pledged to intensify diplomatic pressure on Pyongyang's regime in parallel with the strengthening of their military cooperation during security talks held in the Philippines.[/rtl]
    [rtl]Tensions have been high for months on the Korean peninsula after Pyongyang conducted its sixth nuclear test and launched two intercontinental ballistic missiles, which the North Korean regime said could reach the mainland.[/rtl]
    [rtl]A joint statement by Japan's Atsunori Onodera and South Korea's Song Yumg-moo said Thursday that they "condemn in the strongest terms the continuing provocative North Korean actions."[/rtl]
    [rtl]The two ministers called on North Korea to abandon its nuclear and ballistic missile programs in full, verifiable and irreversible. "[/rtl]
