[ltr]The Director of Sulaymaniyah Airport Taherabdullah, on Monday, called on the federal government to speed up the thought of reopening the airport because of its great impact on the lives of citizens. He pointed out that the airport administration assured the government of its readiness to carry out all its requests regarding the supervision of the airport.[/ltr]
[ltr]"We have sent many letters to the Ministry of Transport and the Civil Aviation Authority confirming our commitment to all the conditions set by Baghdad," Abdullah told Mawazine News. "We are surprised at the moment not to send a delegation from the ministry for an understanding and to discuss the other conditions that are required. Ready to carry out what the federal government is demanding regarding the supervision of the airport. "[/ltr]
[ltr]Abdullah called on the Iraqi government to "quickly reconsider the reopening of the airport, which has a great impact on the lives of citizens," stressing that "the closure of the airport caused the disruption of the lives of citizens and the suspension of many trips, especially businessmen, patients and tourists and constituted an additional financial burden to make the traveler to travel To Baghdad and then fly to the country where he wants to travel. "[/ltr]
[ltr]The relations between the central government and the Kurdistan region have been strained to the point of severing ties and banning flights to and from Erbil and Sulaymaniyah airports, especially after the authorities of the Kurdistan region held a referendum on the secession of Kurdistan from Iraq, Monday (25 September 2017).[/ltr]
