[ltr]China has accused the United States of failing to respect Latin American countries after US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson warned countries in the region of over-dependence on economic ties with Iran.[/ltr]
[ltr]In a speech before a tour of Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Colombia and Jamaica, Tillerson said China had begun to have a presence in Latin America using economic diplomacy to attract the region to its orbit.[/ltr]
[ltr]The Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement late on Friday in a reply to Tillerson that cooperation between China and Latin America is based on mutual interests and mutual needs.[/ltr]
[ltr]"What the United States has said is completely against the truth and shows disrespect for so many Latin American countries," she said.[/ltr]
[ltr]Cooperation between China and Latin American countries was based on equality, reciprocity, openness and inclusiveness.[/ltr]
[ltr]"China is a major international buyer of Latin American commodities and imports an increasing amount of agricultural products and high value-added products from the region," he said.[/ltr]
[ltr]She added that China's investment in Latin American countries and financial cooperation with it is fully in line with trade rules and local laws and regulations.[/ltr]
