NATO defense ministers announced NATO's agreement to expand its training and advisory mission in Iraq.
US Defense Secretary James Matisse said NATO would go on the mission at the request of Iraq last month, adding that the United States had invited its allies in the alliance to help stabilize Iraq.
Matisse said the mission would focus on training Iraqi forces to protect the country from the emergence of new terrorist organizations.
For his part, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said that the mission to be sent to Iraq will not be combat, but a training nature to help raise the efficiency of Iraqi forces and the establishment of infrastructure and military structures developed.
Stoltenberg pointed out the possibility of non-NATO partner countries contributing to the mission in order to avoid the possibility of a future return of terrorist organizations.
