The Japanese Kanagawa prefectural police have announced their intention to develop a "revolutionary system" capable of predicting the location and timing of crimes before they occur based on artificial intelligence.
According to local media, the trial operations of the system will begin in 2020, specifically with Tokyo hosting the Olympic Games.
The system will initially rely on analysis of more than 1 million crimes and about 800,000 incidents in the past.
The data will include sex and age of involvement in those crimes and incidents, in addition to detailed information on how the crimes and the circumstances surrounding them, as well as the weather and highlights areas and buildings associated with crimes and accidents in a timely manner.
The provincial police are already using an advanced system that clarifies the locations and times of accidents and crimes during the day, in order to help them identify the areas most in need of security patrols.
