"The targeting of Christians is a direct targeting of national unity and a serious threat that must be addressed in all ways and means," Speaker of the House of Representatives Saleem al-Jubouri said.
"What Iraq has exposed to all its components, especially the Christian brothers, is part of the attempts to stir up the division between the sons of society, which aims to empty the country of its original energies and components," Jubouri said in a statement.
He added that "the recent crime of one of the Christian families is no less dangerous and a threat of previous attempts, even if motivated by theft or any other motives," calling on the security services throughout Iraq to assume their responsibilities in the protection of all citizens.
"The Christians have shown their deep love for their country and their Iraqi brethren through patience and steadfastness, despite the enormity of the losses and the greatest challenges," he said, expressing deep condolences and condolences to the family and all Christian brothers.
On Thursday night, unidentified gunmen stormed the home of a doctor in Mashtal district, east of Baghdad, killing him and his family, who were his Christian mother, with knives.
Churches in Iraq have declared mourning for the victims.
