Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan reiterated that the issue of Turkish military intervention in Sinjar is in place to eliminate the "terrorist groups" active in this region.
"If the government of Baghdad does not take action against terrorist groups, Turkey will come to Sinjar and deal with them in its own way," Erdogan said during a speech in Istanbul. "We do not ask anyone for permission, and we do not do that for anyone."
Erdogan said in previous statements that "his forces will enter Sinjar to cleanse them of the Kurdish insurgents and cleanse Iraq and stop them activities .. And Sinjar is like a lamp for us, and this will continue until it is cleared of terrorist organizations, and for that we can go there on By surprise. "
Erdogan's comments come despite local assurances that the Labor Party will withdraw from Sinjar.
Sinjar is an important strategic point for Turkey, because it is bordered on the north-west by the Syrian-controlled Syrian territory. There is also a Turkish military base near the city, and by its control of Sinjar, Turkey will cut off the corridor between Syria and Iraq.
