China offers Britain to hold talks on free trade agreement

    2018/07/30 14:24

(Encyclopedia of this Day News | Iraq News ) - China has offered to Britain on Monday held talks on the conclusion of a free trade agreement after graduating from the European Union in an attempt to get closer to London in light of the bitter trade war to Beijing with the United States.

However, the Chinese foreign minister reiterated that his country is open to dialogue with Washington in this regard.

China is looking for allies in its trade war with the United States, initiated by the Donald Trump administration, which says Chinese high-tech companies have stolen intellectual property from US companies and are demanding Beijing buy more US goods to reduce a $ 350 billion trade surplus.

Britain has sent a strong message to Chinese companies that they are fully open to business as they prepare to exit the EU next year and that China is one of the countries Britain wants to sign a free trade agreement with after the break-up.

Chinese Foreign Minister and State Councilor Wang Yi told reporters in Beijing after a meeting with British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt that the two countries had agreed to promote trade and investment.

Hunt said Wang offered to "start discussions on a possible free trade agreement between Britain and China following the exit from the European Union ... that is welcome and we said we will explore it."

Hunt did not give further details.

Wang did not mention free trade talks explicitly, but said the two countries "have agreed to work together on pro-development strategies in the two countries proactively and expand trade and mutual investment."

Wang said the two countries should also oppose trade protection and support and protect free world trade.

    * Trade tension between China and America

"The responsibility for trade imbalances between China and the United States does not lie with China," Wang said in a press briefing, adding that the United States had benefited greatly from trade with his country by obtaining a lot of cheap goods for the benefit of American consumers, Significantly in China as well.

Wang said the United States had started the current tension and the two countries should solve their problems within the framework of the World Trade Organization rather than in accordance with US law.

"China does not want to wage a trade war,

but in the face of this hostile behavior from the United States and the violation of rights, we can only take countermeasures," he said.

"China's door is always open in terms of dialogue and negotiation, but dialogue needs to be based on equality, mutual respect and rules ... any unilateral threats and pressures will only come in the opposite direction," he said.
