WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Washington has formed a 20-nation front for sanctions against Iran, officials said, stressing that sanctions would be applied to Tehran strictly.

Officials said the sanctions were the same as those previously suspended under the nuclear deal, which Washington withdrew from.

Officials said the administration of President Donald Trump would resume heavy economic sanctions on Iran this week and expects to have a significant impact on the Iranian economy.

The sanctions will target Iranian purchases of dollars, trade in metals and other transactions, coal and software related to industry and the automotive sector.

"There is no doubt that these financial sanctions will continue to exert considerable financial pressure," an official told reporters at a conference call.

The officials revealed that Iran is benefiting from the funds of the nuclear agreement to finance the Shiite militias.

Officials said sanctions would come into effect on Tuesday morning at 4:00 GMT.

Officials said Washington would not give permits to countries or companies to deal with Iran.

The officials confirmed that US President Donald Trump was ready to meet the Iranians at any time to reach an agreement.

They pointed out that the aim of the sanctions change the actions of Tehran and not change its regime, stressing Washington's stand on the side of the Iranian people in its demands.

The officials said the sanctions were aimed at cutting off funding for Iran until it stopped destabilizing the region.
