    The Vice President Nuri al-Maliki, on Saturday, the security forces in the province of Basra, criticizing its performance during the demonstrations that swept through the city of Basra recently.
    "The movement of the security services was slow and faltering. The gangs of burning and vandalism gave full freedom of movement and today they will move to purge themselves as if they stopped the vandalism gangs and the rebel militia group," Maliki said in a series of Twitter tweets followed by Twilight News.
    "When visual citizens despair of the protection of the security services, they returned and relied on themselves and managed to deter the gangs and militias of the rebel parties and managed to protect the remaining facilities and institutions."
    "The objectives of calling the House of Representatives to convene in this way, including coverage of acts of vandalism, crimes and assault on the property of the state, people, political forces and popular mobilization," Maliki said.
    Dozens of people demonstrated on Friday afternoon outside the Iranian consulate in the southernmost province of Basra, demanding Tehran stop interfering in Iraq.
    The protesters also called on Iran to withdraw the parties loyal to the province, which accused them of managing financial and administrative corruption in the state institutions and services.
    Iraqi security sources said the protesters stormed the consulate building in the Abe al-Khasib area and set fire to it, chanting slogans against Iran.
    The Iraqi Foreign Ministry earlier expressed regret that the Iranian Consulate General in Basra was attacked by protesters and set fire to them.
    "Unidentified assailants claim to be demonstrators who destroyed the Jafar al-Tayyar center for the treatment of wounded and disabled members of the popular crowd in Basra province and assaulted the wounded who were being treated, while burning the office of the popular crowd of the prime minister," the media said in a statement.
    "Unknown groups, some wearing masks and claiming to be protestors, have this evening destroyed the Jafar al-Tayyar center of the popular crowd clinic, which is treating the wounded and the disabled of the entire crowd," the media said. "These groups attacked the wounded who are being treated."
    The statement added that "these groups also burned the office of the popular crowd of the prime minister in the province of Basra."
    The provinces of Basra are witnessing continuous demonstrations since the beginning of last July to protest the deterioration of the reality of the service, has escalated recently after the contamination of drinking water, and high salinity, causing thousands of intestinal diseases, and severe severe.
    Hundreds of angry protesters set on fire on Thursday evening at government offices and offices of parties and Shiite factions close to Iran, led by Badr Organization led by Hadi al-Amiri and Asaib Ahl al-Haq led by Qais al-Khazali.
    This was the latest escalation in the violence associated with the ongoing popular protests in the central and southern provinces since July, which calls for improving public services and providing jobs and fighting corruption.
