The United States' decision to reduce its diplomatic representation to the Palestinians will come into effect on Monday by merging its consulate in Jerusalem with its embassy in Israel, the State Department said in a statement.
"On March 4, 2019, the United States Consulate General in Jerusalem will be incorporated into the United States Embassy in Jerusalem to form a single diplomatic mission," the statement said.
The US consulate in Jerusalem has been de facto an embassy for Palestinians since the signing of the Oslo agreement in the 1990s.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the move, announced in October, would not be a policy change and aimed at improving "effectiveness
