Baghdad is no longer the same as it was only two years ago. The movement does not stop day and night. The streets have abandoned their cement barriers and the security walls. Iraqis seem to have started weaving a new pattern of their lives away from the security threats, although they are still surrounded by more than one side "Urged" to target Iraqi cities in the month of Ramadan.
"More than a dozen attempts have been quietly thwarted in various parts of the capital this month," an Iraqi security source said in a BBC Arabic report, adding that the aim of keeping the operations quiet was not to undermine the stability of the country. Iraqis in a preventive security effort seems to be effective until now.
The source, who declined to be named, said that the current stage is witnessing a rethinking of security in ways to deal with threats at home, especially in light of the recent picture shown by Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in his recent record, which refers to "structural shake pushed to reduce the entire Iraq As well as Syria. "
Security officials say the specter of terrorism, even if it is in control of Iraq, is not the only threat. It is likely that, compared with the danger of regional chaos, it may decline as a priority to second place amid widespread concern among Iraqis of growing tension between the United States and Iran.
Iraqis are well aware that their country is the most sensitive area of influence sharing between the two countries. This is why it is the military and political security post. It is not only the street but the political elites, including the allies of the United States and Iran, who realize that they may be at the forefront of confrontation. Fighting.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif's visit to Baghdad on May 25, which was not officially announced, was leaked through diplomatic and diplomatic sources. Zarif, who met with Iraqi officials, did not bring calm messages, as a senior diplomatic source told the BBC, but carried an escalating message from Tehran to Washington via Iraq.
The source said that Iran "does not differentiate between economic war and military war, and will not allow the United States to keep it on low fire until it loses consciousness and dies." Therefore, it informed Iraq, and sent similar messages to Qatar, Oman and Kuwait, similar messages through Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi that surrender would not be an option For her, pressure will create a confrontation that no one in the United States and Iran might want.
As for Iraq, it is seeking between the parties to defuse tension, as Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi said in his weekly meeting with journalists, the same as his foreign minister, Mohammed al-Hakim, when he received Zarif in Baghdad. However, the level of tension does not indicate that the government has to maintain balance Between the two allies in case of confrontation.
Abu Alaa al-Walai, secretary-general of the Syed al-Shuhada Brigades, one of the Shiite factions loyal to Iran in Iraq, told the BBC that his organization wants Iraq not to get involved in such a conflict, but he points out that if the war takes place he sees America as an enemy. Who will I be, with Hussein or Yazeed, of course I will be with Hussein, you ask me who you will be, I will be with good against evil. "
Al-Walai, who appeared very frank in expressing his views, said that Iraq's interest comes first and then all other relations. On the other hand, he stressed that he and his organization members imitate the Iranian leader Ayatollah Khamenei and they will do everything possible to implement his instructions.
"We want to do everything possible so that the United States does not stay in the region, and that will be our mandate. I want America not to interfere in the Iraqi issue and any American military presence is unacceptable. Iran is doing what we ask of it, we want Iraq, Independent and free, and this exists and the Iranians have never asked us anything. "
But what is adopted by the state is exactly what the Iraqi politician opposed to Iranian influence Haider Mulla, who was a former deputy in the Iraqi parliament, who indicated that he wants the best relations with Iran, the state and not the revolution.
"Iran has become an active political party in Iraq," said Mullah, who is descended from a Shiite family. For the United States and its role, Mullah says it is somewhat complicated. Iraq can not isolate itself from the international system or its strategic relationship with the United States, but in the context of correcting the course, and helping Iraqis to face the challenge of terrorism or its consequences.
After 2003, the power equations in Iraq changed. Washington and Tehran turned into something like the main sponsors of the Iraqi political class. Both sides and the two sides were at the same time in agreement to support the political process that built the post-occupation authority. While Iran has invested in a variety of relations in the new Iraq, at a sectarian level or with former Iraqi opponents, they secured a safe haven during the rule of the Baath party. The United States was the occupying force and the country that led the coalition that overthrew the former regime, Have a presence at state levels.
Despite the clear alignment today in Iraq, either with America or Iran, or against them together, the Iraqis seem to want the winds of war to go from them, because if they pass, they will not happen, and they will not.
