A member of the Committee on Security and Defense parliamentary Khalid al-Obeidi, on Saturday, there is a shortage in arming the Iraqi army, between the reason is due to the absence of contracts completed during 2017 and 2018.
Al-Obeidi said in a statement to the NNC that "the Ministry of Defense is still fighting the contracts of the previous weapons, which we contracted and received for the year 2015 and beyond," noting that "the Security and Defense Committee hosted leaders in the Ministry of Defense and discussed the reason for the lack of weapons and low combat capacity Some of the pieces. "
He pointed out that "the leadership in the Ministry of Defense confirmed that the reason for the absence of contracts completed during 2017 and 2018, which was a major imbalance in the Ministry of Defense," pointing out that "the Ministry of Defense has previously contracted good weapons and we were able to achieve high combat capability and arming and adequate equipment for the army Iraq, the evidence completed the battles of liberation for Nineveh, Anbar and Salahuddin did not need the army to any weapon or equipment.
"The Iraqi army needs new weapons, because there are a lot of army types suffering from the lack of armament."
In 2017, Iraq reviewed a complete arming deal with Egypt, which is supposed to supply it with ammunition, medium weapons and vehicles, after
a report by a committee of the Ministry of Defense talked about the weakness of the vehicles that finally reached the army forces and the existence of problems in some types of medium weapons, Portable on the shoulder.
