Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi announced the start of consultations on the possibility of extending pipelines for the transfer of oil through Syria and Jordan after increasing threats to navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
"Any obstruction of oil exports across the Strait of Hormuz will constitute a major obstacle to Iraq's economy, especially as it depends mainly on oil imports," Abdul Mahdi said at his weekly press conference.
He told reporters his government was considering contingency plans to deal with possible disruptions, including the search for alternative routes to oil exports.[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
