Turkey's ambassador to Iraq speaks about what distinguishes the demonstrations and places of focus

[rtl]Turkish Ambassador to Baghdad, Fatih Yildiz, said that the Iraqi people took to the streets "apparently of their own will" and "without the guidance of political or religious groups."[/rtl]
[rtl]Yildiz pointed out that he is closely following what is happening in the capital Baghdad and the southern provinces.[/rtl]
[rtl]"From the first day, we announced the need for our citizens to stay away from the places where the events were taking place, and the next day we expanded the scope of that and asked not to travel to Iraq," he said.[/rtl]
[rtl]He stressed that the Ankara Embassy continues to work with maximum energy in order to follow events closely, and to provide the necessary assistance to Turkish citizens (Iraq), when necessary.[/rtl]
[rtl]On the nature of the demonstrators, Yildiz said that about 60 percent of the Iraqi people under the age of 25, pointing out that the bulk of the protesters are young.[/rtl]
[rtl]According to the Ambassador, the basic demands of the demonstrators are "to have access to adequate services in education, health and other areas, access to more jobs, away from favoritism and partisan favoritism, and firmly combat corruption."[/rtl]
[rtl]He pointed out that the demonstrators carried the same demands in the demonstrations that took place in previous years.[/rtl]
[rtl]However, "what distinguishes these demonstrations from its predecessors, they are based on the will of the people to a large extent apparently, without the guidance of political or religious groups."[/rtl]
[rtl]Yildiz also noted that the demonstrations were concentrated in the southern provinces.[/rtl]
[rtl]The Turkish ambassador pointed out that the Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi in his midnight speech, on the events, to use phrases that meet the aspirations.[/rtl]
[rtl]"But we will see the results of whether this word and promises have satisfied the people on the street."[/rtl]
[rtl]"The timing of the lifting of the curfew is still unclear," Yildiz said.[/rtl]
[rtl]Abdul Mahdi ordered the lifting of the curfew in Baghdad and a number of southern provinces as of 5 am local time on Saturday.[/rtl]
[rtl]Clashes escalated between security forces and demonstrators in Baghdad and the southern provinces of the country, and according to a medical source killed 60 people and more than 2500 wounded as of Friday evening.[/rtl]
[rtl]Iraq has been witnessing violent protests since Tuesday, which began from Baghdad to demand better public services and job opportunities and fight corruption, before spreading to the provinces in the south with a majority Shiite.[/rtl]
