Report: Amnesty International: Iraqi security forces resume a lethal campaign of violence against peaceful demonstrators

Amnesty International has counted the deaths of more than six hundred Iraqi demonstrators since last October, 12 of them over the past two days, noting that it has verified that Iraqi security has used live ammunition against protesters.
In its report, the organization confirmed its verification through testimonies and video clips of [url=https://www.thebaghdadpost.com/ar/Story/t/425/%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%82%D9%88%D8%A7%D8%AA %D8%A7%D9%84%D8%A3%D9%85%D9%86%D9%8A%D8%A9][size=13]the security forces'[/url] resumption [url=https://www.thebaghdadpost.com/ar/Story/t/425/%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%82%D9%88%D8%A7%D8%AA %D8%A7%D9%84%D8%A3%D9%85%D9%86%D9%8A%D8%A9]of[/url] the deadly violence campaign against [url=https://www.thebaghdadpost.com/ar/Story/t/70716/%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D8%AA%D8%B8%D8%A7%D9%87%D8%B1%D9%8A%D9%86 %D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B3%D9%84%D9%85%D9%8A%D9%8A%D9%86]peaceful demonstrators[/url] in Baghdad and a number of southern cities in Iraq.
She said she had verified Iraqi security use live ammunition and deadly bombs to kill protesters, as part of what she called a persistent wave of intimidation, arrests and torture.
And she considered that the recent escalation is a clear indication that the Iraqi authorities have no intention whatsoever to put a real end to the repression, as she put it.
Amnesty International called for the immediate cessation of what it called the abhorrent pattern of intentional killing, torture and repression, and called on the Iraqi authorities to immediately rein in [url=https://www.thebaghdadpost.com/ar/Story/t/425/%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%82%D9%88%D8%A7%D8%AA %D8%A7%D9%84%D8%A3%D9%85%D9%86%D9%8A%D8%A9]the security forces,[/url] expel those responsible for serious violations, and initiate comprehensive and independent investigations aimed at accountability and compensation for the affected and their families.
On Monday, the protesters escalated their protests by closing many universities, schools, government institutions, and main roads in the capital, Baghdad, and the cities and towns of central and southern the country.
The demonstrators headed towards escalation with the expiry of a deadline granted to the authorities to respond to their demands, the most important of which was to assign an impartial independent person to form a government of non-partisan specialists in preparation for early elections, as well as to hold accountable the killers of the demonstrators and activists in the protests.
Iraq has witnessed unprecedented protests since the beginning of last October, interspersed with violence that left hundreds of dead as well as thousands of wounded, most of them protesters.
