    The General Company for Iraqi Ports announced today, Monday, that the electronic automation system in the Great Welcome Square in Basra Governorate will enter into force soon, while indicating that work is underway to implement the first stages of the Silk Tunnel project . 
    The company's public relations and media official, Bahaa Ismail Oraibi, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Great Welcome Square project is a shift towards electronic transformation, through the installation of the electronic automation system on which Iraqi ports operate, which will enter into force during the next few period."
    He added, "The General Company for Ports has started implementing the Prime Minister's Resolution 90 of 2020 regarding the Great Welcome Square project, which will be an important center for trucks."
    He pointed out that "the great welcome square will be on an area of ​​one and a half million square meters," noting that "the project will include a group of service buildings, of public interest to the pioneers of the two ports: Umm Qasr, the North and the South."
    He continued, "There will also be a special complex for departments affiliated with supporting government agencies, which work with ports such as ports, health, customs and trade," noting that "the Great Welcome Square project will contribute to reducing the congestion that occurs in the two ports ."
    With regard to the Silk Tunnel project, he stressed that "work is underway in the first stages of the Silk Tunnel project, where the concrete bases of the concrete slab were built."
    Earlier, the Director-General of the General Company for Iraqi Ports, Farhan Muhaisen, confirmed to the Iraqi News Agency (INA) the continuation of expansion in the Great Welcome Square, which is one of the largest strategic projects in which work began months ago, noting that "work is underway to complete the first phase of it, which is hoped to be completed." During the period, the number of trucks loaded with containers will reach from 2000 to 3000, while in the final stage, their capacity will be about 8000 trucks, being at a rate of one and a half million square meters dedicated to customs detection,” considering that “this stage is a transition to the customs port work.”
