    {Economic: Al Furat News} Oil Minister Ihsan Abdul-Jabbar said, on Wednesday, that the Karbala refinery is witnessing the final touches, indicating that its opening will be in early 2022.
    Abdul-Jabbar stressed during his inauguration of the administration building of the Karbala refinery, according to a statement by his media office, which {Al-Furat News} received a copy of, on "the importance of the Karbala oil refinery project in the Karbala governorate in providing high-quality oil products, and covering a large part of the local need."
    He said, "The refinery is now witnessing the finalization of the completion of this vital and qualitative production project in terms of its reliance on advanced technology and the quality of the product from it, as the refinery will be operated early next year."
    And he indicated, "Now the trial operation of electric power generation systems is being started, and the process of introducing the rest of the production units is coming successively," praising "the efforts of workers from national companies and foreign contracting companies, and their insistence on completing the project despite health challenges."
    For his part, Undersecretary for Liquidation Affairs Hamid Younis affirmed "the ministry's keenness to speed up the development of the liquidation sector in Iraq by building modern refineries and introducing new units to the current refineries."
    He pointed out, "Next year will witness a qualitative increase in the production of oil derivatives," stressing that "the Karbala refinery with a capacity of (140,000 barrels per day) and adopts environmental standards and in accordance with international standards."
    The Oil Minister had arrived at the Karbala oil refinery site, accompanied by a number of officials in the ministry, and held a meeting with the project management, as well as inspecting the ongoing work in the refinery.
