Yesterday, Iraq seemed to be heading towards a new political crisis in light of the results of Sunday's elections. The State of Law Coalition, led by Nuri al-Maliki, announced that it was in contact with several forces in order to form the "largest bloc" in the next parliament, which practically means Encircling the Sadrist movement, which achieved a clear victory over its rivals in terms of the number of its representatives, and is supposed to be entrusted with the task of choosing the next prime minister.
This came at a time when the Independent High Electoral Commission began manual counting and sorting operations for 140 stations in Karkh and Rusafa in Baghdad, which had not been counted and sorted electronically.
The preliminary results announced by the Electoral Commission showed significant progress for the movement of the cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, followed by the "State of Law coalition", on the Shiite front, in return for a significant decline of the forces loyal to Iran, led by the "Al-Fateh Alliance" bloc led by Hadi al-Amiri.
Fears of a Shiite-Shiite clash escalated yesterday. While the "Sadrists" see that the "largest bloc" is the winner of the most votes, their opponent, the State of Law Coalition, sees that the "largest bloc" will be formed within the House of Representatives from different blocs and lists.
Iraqi politicians are putting forward the scenario of an alliance between al-Sadr and his opponents to form the largest bloc, and nominate a consensual prime minister, to avoid a civil war.
Meanwhile, the United States, in the words of Jennifer Gavito, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Iraq and Iran Affairs, affirmed that it stands with the new elected government in Iraq in the task of limiting arms to the state.
Al-Kazemi said during the cabinet session today (October 14, 2021): "We have fulfilled our promise to hold the elections on time without recording any security and legal violations, and this is the first time that elections are held without imposing a curfew, without the prime minister participating in it as a candidate. "".
He added, "We did not participate in the elections, to give them integrity, credibility and confidence, and to keep them away from any possible political pressure," noting that "the elections constitute the elections at the heart of the democratic process and its spirit, and the Iraqi people proved by their interaction with the electoral wedding that they are eager for their future, He refuses to go back to the time of dictatorship and one opinion, and seeks to build a bright future for future generations.
He continued, "We, as a people, political forces and government, should join hands and cooperate, and translate the elections and their results in a practical way, away from promises and slogans, but rather by working hard to correct mistakes by learning from our experiences and planning for a future worthy of a people that has its mark in the history of humanity, and we must adhere to our values." We have to adhere to the logic of the state and its sovereignty, and cooperate in strengthening its presence, for there is no alternative to the logic of a sovereign state that secures the interests of its people.”
