Al-Kazemi survives the second assassination attempt in a week: amending the election results or chaos!

Baghdad / Tamim Al-Hassan
At a strange time, a “security technology” stopped inside the Green Zone, where the home of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, who was attacked at dawn yesterday, was attacked by drones.
This "sudden failure" may make the identity of the perpetrators of the attack frightening - as in most incidents in Iraq - and open the door to mutual accusations.
This took place after 24 hours of bloody clashes between opponents of the election results and the security services at the gates of the Green Zone. Political parties expected a more dangerous "scenario" that might occur in the coming days if the results of the recent elections were not modified in favor of the opponents.
The elections eliminated the political team known for its closeness to the Popular Mobilization, in return for the rise of the Sadrist movement and parties that emerged from the October protests.
Those parties promised that targeting the residence of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi inside the Green Zone with drones was a “blackmail” to change the results.
The Electoral Commission is supposed to announce the end of the counting and sorting operations for some polling stations in which appeals were submitted.
The moment of deciding the results
But a political source close to the atmosphere of the negotiations conducted by some political forces, said that "the limited counting and sorting operations conducted by the Commission will not convince those who object to the results."
The source, who asked not to be named, confirmed to Al-Mada that "the objectors want a comprehensive manual recount, as happened in the 2018 elections, otherwise the situation may escalate." The Prime Minister came out early yesterday morning, to confirm that he was "not injured" during the attack that targeted his residence in the Green Zone.
The attack came a day after threats made by the leader of Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq, Qais Khazali, to hold Al-Kazemi responsible for the clashes that took place with the demonstrators in front of the gates of the government area.
The political source considered that "the attack on Al-Kazemi is to blackmail him and force him to change the election results in favor of some of the objectors." The attack came with 3 booby-trapped drones, two of which were shot down - according to a statement by the Ministry of the Interior, while the government is still investigating to find out the identity of the perpetrators.
defense system shutdown
However, a security source confirmed to (Al-Mada) in a phone call that "the identification of the perpetrators may be impossible, especially since it is not possible to know the location of the planes taking off."
The source, who asked not to be named, added that “the suspension of the Ceram (anti-missile) system of the US embassy at the time of the attack missed the opportunity to know the place of launch.” The source indicates that this system is “radar as well, and it can determine, albeit initially, the location of the exit of these planes.” The spokesman for the joint operations, Major General Tahsin Al-Khafaji, announced the opening of an investigation with the American side, to find out the reasons for the failure of the CERAM system.
In response to a question about the reason for the failure of the system, Al-Khafaji explained that “there is an investigation now underway with the American side and the American embassy,” noting that “specialists must provide answers about that,” according to state television.
And the US embassy in Baghdad periodically announces that it is conducting training exercises on the defense system and sounding the sirens. There were widespread local and international condemnations against the attack, while news leaked out that a number of Al-Kazemi's bodyguards were injured in the incident.
Pictures published by the Prime Minister's Office showed damage to the house, at a time when it is believed that Al-Kazemi had been warned by intelligence services before the attack. On the eve of the attack, a number of Baghdad areas witnessed strict security measures, and some security controls inside the capital searched cars, an unprecedented measure for years.
Treachery missiles!
On the other hand, parties affiliated with armed factions questioned the story of the attack and considered it a fabricated story in favor of Al-Kazemi staying in the position and declaring a “state of emergency.”
"No one in Iraq has even the desire to lose a drone over the house of a former prime minister," said Abu Ali al-Askari, a spokesman for Kata'ib Hezbollah.
And he added in a tweet on Twitter: “If someone wants to harm this Facebook creature, there are very many ways, less expensive and more secure, to achieve this.”
Al-Askari continued: “It is ironic that it calls for restraint and calm, so who, you think, should worry, and whoever has lost control of himself?”
Al-Kazemi wrote on “Twitter” in his first comment after the failed assassination attempt: “I was and still am a redemption project for Iraq and the people of Iraq.”
In his tweet, he indicated that he was subjected to "treachery missiles" before the government's Security Media Cell confirmed that the attack was carried out with "exploded drones."
Al-Kazemi added, "The believers will not be discouraged, and a hair will not be shaken in the steadfastness and insistence of our heroic security forces to preserve people's security, achieve justice, and set the law in place."
Yesterday, the Ministerial Council for National Security pledged to pursue those involved in the attempt to "assassinate" the Prime Minister.
This came in a statement, following a meeting of the council, which is chaired by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, and includes the Ministers of Defense and Interior, the National Security Adviser, and senior leaders of the security services. The statement said, "The cowardly terrorist attack, which targeted the home of the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces with the aim of assassinating him, is a serious targeting of the Iraqi state by criminal armed groups." In its statement, the council stressed that the Iraqi forces "will carry out their national duty to pursue the aggressors and bring them to justice, as they did during the years of the war on terrorism and victory over it."
He continued, "Our security services will work steadfastly to uncover the parties involved in this terrorist act, arrest them, and bring them to a fair trial."
It is believed that this is the second attempt within a week, as 3 missiles fell 7 days ago in the Mansour area, west of Baghdad.
He suggested that the missiles were likely to target Al-Kazemi, who was at the time inside the intelligence building near the place where the “Katyusha” fell.
After the "Chest" tour
The situation in the country began to escalate since the end of last week, with the start of a tour of the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, on the political forces.
Al-Sadr led the negotiations with the political parties himself, instead of the negotiating committee that he formed weeks ago, and changed its chairman last week. Those objecting to the results rose from the scene, as they tried last Friday to storm the Green Zone from several sides. In turn, Rahim Al-Aboudi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Wisdom Movement led by Ammar Al-Hakim, warned of the dangers of what happened. Al-Aboudi said, in connection with (Al-Mada): "The presidencies and political forces must agree on a way to calm down."
Al-Aboudi added, "The Prime Minister, the Republic, the President of the Judicial Council and the Commission must meet with the political forces to put an end to the issue of the election results before the situation develops."
