{Local: Al Furat News} The Erbil Provincial Council rejected, on Thursday, the amount of 2 billion Iraqi dinars provided by the Iraqi government to those affected by the floods in Erbil.
"We rejected the amount and we ask the federal government to reconsider it so that those affected can benefit from it," the council's spokesman, Kanaan Khilani, said in a press conference.
Khilani added, "We proposed the formation of a joint committee between the Presidency of the Provincial Council and the Council of Ministers in the Kurdistan Regional Government and to send it to Baghdad to address the federal government in order to increase the amount."
The meeting of the Dohuk Provincial Council came at a time when the blocs of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, the Islamic Union, Kurdistan Justice and Change, and only the Kurdistan Democratic bloc participated in it with the blocs of other components, such as Turkmen and Christianity.
In this regard, Kanaan Khilani said: "Unfortunately, we had hoped for their participation, and it was necessary for them to attend the meeting, but with this we represent everyone."
The blocs issued a boycott of the extraordinary meeting of the provincial council today, Thursday, because of their objection to the failure of the local government's budget to reach the council, as well as the marginalization of the council, according to them, by the local government and the regional government as well.
