Al-Sadr and his partners are approaching the government... and the coordination framework is in a critical situation
Baghdad/ Firas Adnan
The features of the next government have become clear that it will be formed on a platform agreed upon by the Sadrists and their partners from the Sunni and Kurdish forces, in a way that puts the coordination framework in great embarrassment. However, the leader of the State of Law coalition, Nuri al-Maliki, will not be part of the government.
Al-Maliki had published a tweet yesterday, which was seen by (Al-Mada), in which he confirmed that the coordination framework is coherent and strong, and is moving towards partnership, and that either all of them will go to the government or boycott it.
These positions came after leaks from informed political sources that the coordination framework will abandon some of its leaders, led by al-Maliki, in order to join the government.
Political expert Ziad Al-Arar said, in an interview with Al-Mada, that "the Sadrist movement and its partners are from the alliances of progress and determination, and the Kurdistan Democratic Party is closer than the previous government in forming the next government."
Al-Arar added, "This coalition appeared to have more than 200 deputies, who had voted for the presidency of the House of Representatives in the swearing-in session."
He pointed out, "The entry of other parties to this alliance is up to the coming days, specifically after the House of Representatives elects the President of the Republic."
Al-Arar spoke about "new dialogues that will start between the Sadrist movement and forces from the coordination framework, before the prime minister is appointed to discuss the parameters of the next government."
He expected, "The dialogues will take place on the same previous pattern, which is that the Sadrist movement does not negotiate with the coordination framework as a single bloc, but rather components, as it is one of the Shiite forces, as it negotiated in the past with the Sunni and Kurdish forces."
Al-Arar added, "The Sadrist movement adheres to its proposition, which was announced before the elections, to form a national political majority government. As for the position of the coordination framework, it may change after the election of the President of the Republic towards the joining of some of its forces with the Sadrists."
And he considered, "The resort of some of the forces of the planning framework or all of its components to the opposition is inevitable," and considered it a "positive turning point in that we have a strong political front that can monitor the government."
Al-Arar continues, "The platform of the Sadrist movement did not include its objection to a particular bloc, but rather developed a map that was agreed upon with the progress and determination of the Kurdistan Democratic Party."
He stressed, "Whoever accepts this map and is convinced of the Sadrists will join them in the next government, on the basis of respect for the law." Al-Arar went on to say that "everyone is currently awaiting the decision of the Federal Supreme Court to appeal in the first session, so that the process of selecting the rest of the presidencies will proceed, and we believe that the ruling will be in the direction of approving the session and its legitimacy, and that the coordination framework will adhere to it as it did with regard to challenging the election results." For his part, a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Majid Baglan, said in a statement to Al-Mada that "the Kurds are not a party to the divisions and conflicts within the Shiite political house."
And Baglan added, "The outcomes of the early elections resulted in a reality that there are winning blocs that will unite among themselves."
He pointed out that "the image of the next government has become clear, which is the Sadrist movement, the Kurdistan Democratic Party, and the alliance of progress and determination with some coordination framework, and it is likely that the Al-Fateh alliance led by Hadi al-Amiri will also be in it."
And Baglan indicated, "The most numerous bloc is determined by the size of the seats and political alliances," noting that "the coordination framework, all or parties of it, if it continues to refuse to join the Sadrist movement and its partners, will go to the opposition."
He stressed that "the public interest requires the existence of a real opposition to monitoring the work of the government and evaluating the executive performance, especially in terms of spending public money and providing services in order to enhance the progress of the political process and support the democratic system."
It ended with “excluding the Sadrist movement from going to the opposition, and what hinders the dispute within the Shiite house is the dispute with the leader of the State of Law coalition, Nuri al-Maliki, and thus we have two fronts, the first led by the Sadrists, which will form the government with the partners and the other for the owners, and we believe that it will be in the opposition.” However, Al-Fateh Alliance spokesman, Ahmed Al-Asadi, said in statements to reporters, including Al-Mada correspondent, that “the coordination framework is coherent, and there are no divisions within it, and it negotiates with everyone under one title.”
Al-Asadi stressed, "The coming days will witness intense dialogues with the Sadrists, and we expect that they will yield results and form a government capable of carrying out its constitutional and service duties."
He explained, "The decision of the Federal Supreme Court to appeal in the first session will be issued next Tuesday, and it will be accepted and respected by us even if we are not convinced of it."
Al-Asadi stressed, “the importance of the Shiite house reaching a political agreement through which it draws the features of the state for the next stage, and we are with this agreement and we expect from the Sadrists more understanding and rapprochement in the service of the public interest.”
The president of the republic is supposed to be elected before the ninth of next February, provided that the process of forming the government is completed on March 26 as a maximum, according to the constitutional times.
