    Today, Wednesday, the Ministry of Environment announced the percentage of land cleared of mines and unexploded ordnance throughout the country.
    The Minister of Environment, who has administrative, financial and technical powers, Jassem Abdul Aziz Al-Falahi, said in a statement received by Al-Nabaa Agency, that "the percentage of Iraqi lands cleared of mines and other unexploded ordnance projectiles has exceeded 53% of the total contaminated areas throughout the affected Iraqi governorates."
    Al-Falahi added during the preparatory meeting of the Committee of Diwani Order No. (15S) for the year 2011, which includes the formation of the Higher National Committee for Mine Affairs, that “the area of ​​contamination with mines and other war projectiles is currently about (6,022) square kilometers throughout the Iraqi governorates, at a time when the national program for managing mines has succeeded. Mine Affairs has cleared more than 53% of these previously contaminated areas.
    He pointed out that "about 2761 square kilometers have remained polluted so far," explaining that "57% of the total pollution is in the southern regions, 25% of it is in the liberated governorates, and 18% in the governorates of the Middle Euphrates, while the number of beneficiaries has reached Of the awareness campaigns, about (13,470), benefiting from these campaigns.
    For his part, the Director General of the Mine Affairs Department, Dhafer Mahmoud Khalaf, said that "the meeting finally led to a number of recommendations that will be submitted later to the Prime Minister and the Chairman of the Supreme National Committee for Mine Affairs, and the summary of these recommendations is focused on strengthening the government's financial aspects that will ensure the continuity of the national program for mine management." in Iraq to perform its many and varied tasks in the best possible way.”
