Today, Monday, the head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Massoud Barzani, made his first comment after the resignation of the Sadrist bloc's deputies.

"We respect the decision of His Eminence Muqtada al-Sadr, and we will follow up on subsequent developments," Barzani said in a tweet, which was followed by Alsumaria News.

Last Thursday, al-Sadr threatened to remain in the opposition or to withdraw completely from the political process, unless a "national majority" government was formed. He also directed members of his parliamentary bloc to write their resignations in preparation for submitting them to the parliament's presidency.

Deputies of the Sadrist bloc announced their resignation from Parliament yesterday evening, Sunday, and Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi approved it.

Al-Sadr said in a statement that he had asked the head of his bloc to "submit the resignations of the sisters and brothers in the Sadrist bloc to the Speaker of Parliament." "This step is considered a sacrifice from me for the sake of the homeland and the people to rid them of their unknown fate," he added.
