    Baghdad / Obelisk: The Ministry of Planning confirmed on Monday, July 4, 2022 that Iraq annually increases by one million people, noting the annual estimates of the population.
    The official spokesman for the Ministry of Planning, Abdul-Zahra Al-Hindawi, said in a statement received by the obelisk that there is a document of population policies that we are working to update now, which includes policies aimed at absorbing the population increases taking place in Iraq and transforming them into interactive innovations by improving the standard of life in various sectors, including: Health Education, housing, women empowerment, social protection, youth empowerment, and partnerships with the private sector.
    The document also included, according to Al-Hindawi, family planning according to modern economic and development standards, adding that this organization relies on two lines, the first being the spacing of pregnancies, and reducing the number of births.
    Al-Hindawi considered that the process of identifying children is a right of the family, pointing out that the ministry relies on the issue of social awareness through two tracks: the first, improving the level of education for the family, and the second, raising family awareness through campaigns through the media, civil society organizations and various platforms, to reduce the number of births. So that the head of the family is able to provide for the needs of the family.
    According to the estimates of the Ministry of Planning for the year 2021, the population of Iraq is 41 million people, according to Al-Hindawi, who continued that the rate of children in a family ranges from 6-7 children as a general average, but there is a discrepancy between one governorate and another due to the economic situation and the level of education of families.
    A spokesman for the Ministry of Planning confirmed that according to the indicators of the Ministry of Planning, there is a decrease in the level of annual growth rates. 10 years ago, it was 3%, but today we are talking about 2.6%.
    He pointed out that “the fertility rate of women has decreased in the last 10 years, 7 children or more as a general average, and now the number is less than 7, meaning we are talking about 5.6 children in urban areas, and 6 children in the countryside.
    Al-Hindawi expected that in the next 10 years, according to annual estimates, the population of Iraq in 2030 may reach 50 million people or less, noting that "there is a decline in annual growth rates."
    The Ministry of Planning confirmed that we will be aware of the true and accurate number of the population of Iraq after conducting the general population census in the last quarter of next year 2023, and we will be in front of accurate and real numbers of the population at the urban, rural, district, district and governorate levels.
