The National Security Adviser, Qassem Al-Araji, stressed, on Tuesday (September 13, 2022), Iraq's need to benefit from international expertise in the field of border control and cyber security, while noting that ISIS terrorist gangs still pose a threat.
This came during a meeting between Al-Araji and a delegation from the German Parliament headed by Nils Schmid. During the meeting, they reviewed Iraqi-German relations and ways to enhance cooperation in areas that serve the two countries.
Al-Araji assured the guest delegation, according to a statement issued by his media office, that "the situation in Iraq is constantly improving, especially with regard to confronting ISIS terrorist gangs," noting that "Iraq is proud of the countries that stood by its side in its war against terrorism."
According to al-Araji, "ISIS still poses a threat, and the international community must remain cohesive to confront this danger."
And he indicated that "the Iraqi government asked the United Nations and the European Union to urge countries to withdraw their nationals from the Syrian Al-Hol camp."
He also stressed "Iraq's need to benefit from international expertise in the field of border control, drug control, cyber security, technological cooperation, as well as cooperation in the economic fields," noting that "the Iraqi forces have field experience in dealing with terrorism."
In turn, the German parliamentary delegation affirmed its "appreciation" of Iraq's role in security strategies and its quest to enhance stability in the region, noting that "Iraq is an important partner and relations between the two countries are good."
The delegation noted that "Germany focuses on human security through several aspects, away from the military aspect."
