Today, Tuesday, the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers announced the issuance of a directive from Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi to rehabilitate the Safwan port in preparation for Gulf 25.
A spokesman for the General Secretariat, Haider Majid, said, "According to the directive of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, to take all measures and procedures to prepare to receive the 25th Gulf Arab in Basra Governorate, one of the companies started to rehabilitate the Safwan border port."
He added, "This was done in direct coordination between the Border Ports Authority, represented by Major General Omar Adnan Al-Waeli, and the Basra Governorate, represented by its governor, Asaad Al-Eidani," noting that "the rehabilitation process will include providing all services, infrastructure and doors for the port on its Iraqi and Kuwaiti sides."
He added, "The development work will include the establishment of a hall for arrivals and departures, as well as the establishment of a VIP lounge, with the rehabilitation of all roads in the port, and the delivery of liquefied water to it from the Safwan Water Directorate," explaining that "all these procedures are going according to what was planned."
