, the Federal Integrity Commission reported, on Monday, the issuance of two decisions condemning the former Deputy Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defense; for “intentionally causing harm” to the funds and interests of the entity in which he was working.
The Commission's Investigation Department said, "The Karkh Criminal Court - the Third Authority, issued two judgments in attendance against the former Deputy Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defense, in two cases of signing contracts to equip the Ministry of Defense with equipment," noting that "the convict committed violations in the first contract related to equipping the Ministry with equipment ( 45/5 mm, contrary to the legal contexts in the contract,” pointing out that “the price of bullets fixed in the contract amounted to (26) cents per shot, while the real price ranged between (3-5) cents.”
The department added, in a statement received by Mawazine News, that "the convict committed other violations when signing the contract, which was the absence of an examination and acceptance certificate for the equipment, and the absence of receipt documents, which led to deliberately causing damage to the ministry's interest."
She explained, "The former Deputy Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defense committed violations in another contract to supply the ministry with light weapons and equipment at an amount of $15,542,930 million, noting" the failure to supply the contracted materials; Despite the disbursement of the aforementioned amount, the conclusion of the contract is outside the power of the convict.”
And she confirmed, that "the Karkh Criminal Court - the third body, after perusal of the statements of the legal representative of the Ministry of Defense who requested the complaint against the convict, the report of the Financial Supervision Bureau, the letter of the Ministry of Commerce - the Registrar of Companies, and the statements of witnesses, it found them to be sufficient and convincing for conviction; (340) of the Penal Code, giving the affected party the right to claim compensation before the civil courts.
