On Thursday, Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani chaired a meeting on the water desalination project to provide drinking water in Basra.
A statement by Al-Sudani's office stated that "the meeting witnessed a review of previous decisions and steps taken by the concerned authorities in the Basra water file, and discussion of the mechanisms required to fundamentally solve the water problem."
The statement added, "After listening to the legal and technical views, Al-Sudani directed a meeting at the beginning of next week in the presence of representatives from the ministries of housing, municipalities, electricity, oil and the Council of Advisors, and in the presence of the Austrian consultant ILF, to develop an urgent plan for the completion of an integrated project that includes desalination of drinking water and power generation." Providing water to raise the capacities of oil reservoirs.
