The Canadian newspaper (Ottawa Citizen) revealed the participation of Canadian special forces in a military operation as part of an international coalition team in 2015, during which 112,000 bombs and missiles were dropped targeting sites of the terrorist organization ISIS in Iraq and Syria, resulting in hundreds of civilian deaths, while investigators and organizations estimated Human rights At least 7 thousand innocent civilians were killed in that operation.
The newspaper stated in its report, which was translated by (Al-Mada), that “members of the Canadian forces participated in an American military team in an operation in which they were accused of killing large numbers of innocent people in Iraq and Syria.”
The report added, "The details of the role of the Canadian Special Forces in the team, which was nicknamed, (The Anvil's Claw), are still a secret."
He pointed out, "Documents obtained by the newspaper, as well as information provided by military sources, indicate that at least one soldier from the Canadian Special Forces was part of a team of 20 in 2015, while other Canadian soldiers were in the role of the supporting force."
The report pointed out, "The New York Times newspaper revealed in December 2021 that Operation Anvil's Claw is responsible for dropping tens of thousands of bombs and missiles against ISIS targets in Iraq and Syria, but hundreds of innocent civilians were killed as a result of that operation."
And he stated, "The American newspaper indicated that the reckless actions of the Anvil's Claw Team, which worked for the period between 2014 and 2019, had sounded the alarm bell for the US military and even the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)."
The report stressed, "The investigation conducted by the (New York Times) newspaper showed at the time that the rules supposed to be followed to protect civilians were ignored."
And he confirmed, “The investigation revealed that people who had no role in the war, including farmers trying to harvest their crops, children playing in the streets, families trying to flee the fighting, and villagers who took refuge in buildings, were killed.”
And the report continues, "The Canadian Ministry of Defense had acknowledged, in a separate statement to (Ottawa Citizen) newspaper, that a member of the Canadian Special Forces was a participant in the Operation Claw of the Anvil team."
And he continues, “The ministry did not provide any details about the role played by the Canadian soldier in that team, but it stated that he was stationed at the time with the American military team called the Anvil’s Claw, which is run by the Delta Division of the American Special Forces.”
The report quoted, according to “the Ministry of Defense, that the Canadian soldier was part of the Operation Claw of the Anvil team for the period from April to October 2015, and that it had no other information because the operation was led by US Special Forces.”
And it goes back to “The New York Times, which reported that one air strike by the Anvil’s Claw team was verified, resulting in civilian deaths.”
And the report went on, “The American newspaper also said that the Anvil’s Claw team, which was based in Erbil and then moved to Syria, was responsible for 80% of the bombs and missiles that were fired at ISIS targets, and they numbered 112,000 shells.”
He revealed, “Independent investigators and human rights organizations estimated that at least 7,000 civilians were killed as a result of the coalition air strikes in Iraq and Syria.”
The report indicated, “The Canadian Ministry of Defense stated that the members of the Royal Canadian Air Force were not assigned to work with the Anvil’s Claw team. And it is not known what kind of role, if there was any, that the Canadian air strikes against ISIS carried out within the Anvil's Claw team.
He pointed out, "The Anvil's Claw Team of the Special Forces consists of three groups working around the clock to collect information from allied ground forces, including the Canadian Special Forces, as well as the information it obtains from the provision of reconnaissance drones and interceptor aircraft that send wireless security information."
And he confirmed, “Canadian CF-18 fighter jets carried out, during the period from October 30, 2014 to February 15, 2016, approximately 251 air strikes, all against ISIS targets in Iraq, during which 606 bombs were dropped.”
And he stressed, "The Canadian Forces said they had no information about civilian casualties as a result of those combat sorties."
The report noted, "Pentagon officials saw that it was difficult to accurately verify the deaths of civilians or to verify allegations of innocent deaths during the airstrikes, most of which occurred in an area controlled by ISIS."
And he stated, "The previous Canadian government had sent Canadian special forces to the Kurdistan region and started training Kurdish forces starting in 2014."
And the report concluded, “The extension of the program by the new Canadian government, which includes the involvement of Canadian special forces in air strikes participating in battles with the enemy.”
