The “National Contract” calls for accelerating the selection of the Speaker of Parliament

the “National Contract” coalition joined the political blocs of the Coordination Framework and other parliamentary blocs, calling on the Sunni blocs to expedite agreement on an acceptable figure to assume the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives. The coalition indicated that the next stage urgently needs the presence of
a Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Alliance member, Mahdia Al-Lami, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah” that “electing a new speaker of the House of Representatives for the current session; It has become a necessary and urgent matter, and the election step must be implemented, since the constitutional issue is clearly defined.”
Al-Lami explained that “the details of choosing the Speaker of the House of Representatives are in the court of the Sunni blocs, and the component is supposed to decide on choosing a Speaker of the Council and then present it to the political blocs to vote on in an election within the requirements of democratic work, and that the election be by (secret ballot) and that the candidate obtain He will have the highest votes and be able to manage the House of Representatives wisely for the remainder of the life of this session.
She added, “Whoever is chosen for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives; It is assumed that it will gain acceptance from the (Sunni component) as well as the rest of the other components, because the House of Representatives is an integrated team working together to cover the remaining period of time
for this legislative session.”
She stressed that “some people’s accusations against the Acting Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, of disrupting the Council’s sessions to elect a new president, are pure fabrications that are incorrect and unfounded, as evidenced by the holding of several sessions one after the other, but the precursors that occurred in the session to elect the Speaker of the House of Representatives prevented it from proceeding.” The session ran smoothly, and therefore we are waiting for the upcoming sessions to resolve the crisis of choosing a speaker for the House of Representatives who will be acceptable to everyone, due to the urgent necessity in this important period of service projects, the budget, the commission, and upcoming elections,” indicating that “all of this requires wise management from the new Speaker of the House
and the team that works with him.” ».
The “Iraqi Base” coalition, headed by the acting Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, issued a statement in which he explained that he and its president “confirmed more than once that they support the political entitlement of the (Sunni component),” and the statement added, “Some are approaching shifting responsibility toward the presidency of the Council in resolving the issue.” The problem of naming (the Chairman of the Council) instead of bearing it, and thus shuffling the cards only results in more unjustified delay.” The coalition statement also denounced the “premeditated campaign” that Al-Mandalawi faces in his professional and political capacity.
The representative of the “State of Law” coalition, Firas Al-Muslimaoui, also confirmed earlier that the obstacle to electing the Speaker of the House of Representatives is the matter of the “Sunni component,” noting that “there is no agreement on a mechanism to choose the personality of the Speaker of the House of Representatives from among the (Sunni component) as “Political custom and entitlement to the component.”
