    Baghdad today - Baghdad
The Kurdistan Regional Government announced today, Wednesday (June 5, 2024), its intention to send a delegation from the government, as well as foreign oil companies operating in the region, to Baghdad, for a meeting related to the resumption of oil exports through the Turkish port of Ceyhan.
At the Regional Government Council of Ministers meeting held today, Wednesday, according to a statement followed by “Baghdad Today,” Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and the negotiating delegation spoke about the meetings, efforts and procedures for resuming oil exports, noting the continuation of meetings with the federal government with the aim of resuming the export process as soon as possible. time".
The statement indicated that "a delegation from the regional government and oil companies is scheduled to visit Baghdad early next week at the invitation of the Federal Ministry of Oil, to discuss finding a mechanism to overcome all obstacles that hinder the resumption of oil exports, which unfortunately have caused billions of dollars in losses to the governments of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region since the suspension." The export process took place in March of last year.
The meeting stressed “the Council of Ministers’ directives to the negotiating delegation, which stipulate an emphasis on the serious position of the Kurdistan Regional Government in its endeavor to reach a comprehensive and balanced agreement as soon as possible and in accordance with the constitution, to resume the export of the region’s oil through the (SOMO) company and deposit its revenues in the service of the public treasury.” This should be achieved based on the constitutional foundations and taking into account the specificity and powers of the region.”
Last May 28, the Ministry of Oil called for a meeting “as soon as possible” with the Kurdish Ministry of Energy and foreign companies operating in Kurdistan, to reach an agreement on resuming oil exports through the Turkish port of Ceyhan.
All factors are available to resume the export of Kurdistan and Kirkuk oil through the port of Ceyhan, but what prevents this is the “rebellion” of foreign oil companies that are not satisfied with rearranging their contracts according to a modest price per barrel that is identical to the contracts of central and southern oil, while the contracts of foreign companies in Kurdistan They are contracts for participation in production, and they also demand money owed by the regional government, which must be paid by Baghdad, as Kurdistan is supposed to have “lifted its hand” from oil and placed the ball in the court of Baghdad and foreign companies.
