The representative of the State of Law coalition, Firas Al-Muslimaoui, said on Wednesday that there were no “failures” in the 2024 budget, ruling out challenging its schedules after voting on them in Parliament the day before Monday.
Al-Muslimaoui said, “The 2024 budget was voted on in Parliament and proceeded in accordance with the legal and constitutional frameworks, and there is no problem with its schedules until it is challenged.”
He added, “The Finance Committee preceded the vote on the schedules by about 7 meetings and completed a report that it presented to the House of Representatives explaining all the details of the schedules and what they contain.”
He continued, “The tables were published a week before the voting session on the official parliamentary group, and a report was presented detailing the planning deficit and how to close it.”
Regarding the possibility of challenging the 2024 budget schedules, Al-Muslimaoui stated, “There is no complete consensus on any law that Parliament votes on, and this is one of the advantages of the democratic process.”
It is noteworthy that the head of the State of Law coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, stated that “the 2024 budget contains many technical issues and must be directed towards services,” adding that “the governorates’ allocations do not meet their needs and ambitions,” (according to him).
Yesterday, Tuesday, the Parliamentary Finance Committee called on the provincial councils to exert their efforts to finance the ongoing and lagging projects after the federal government allocated 5 trillion dinars to each governorate within the 2024 budget schedules.
Committee member, Moeen Al-Kazemi, said in an interview followed by (Al-Mada), that “the federal government allocated 3 trillion dinars to each governorate,” noting that “the Finance Committee added 2 trillion during its final report on the budget schedules,” adding that “the amount of 5 trillion A very large dinar, which requires the provincial councils to exert their efforts to finance ongoing and lagging projects.”
Parliament also announced that it had completed the procedures for its decision to approve the budget schedules, and sent it to the Iraqi Ministries of Finance, Justice, and Ministries.
It is noteworthy that last Monday, the House of Representatives voted on the 2024 budget schedules, while adjourning its session until further notice, and hours later it announced the end of its legislative term.
