Today, Sunday, the Ministry of Transport announced plans to purchase modern and advanced ships from international origins, while noting that the completion rates in the five berths of Al-Faw port amounted to 41 percent.
The media office at the Ministry of Transport said, in an interview with the Iraqi News Agency and its follow-up, "Al-Iqtisad News", that "the specialized technical cadres in the ministry prepared a complete plan, supervised by the Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhibis Al-Saadawi, to purchase modern and advanced ships from international origins specialized in the field of maritime transport." In order to increase the number of ships owned by the General Company for Maritime Transport, "noting that" the ministry currently owns 6 large ships of various tonnages, which are (Baghdad - Basra - Al-Hadba - Al-Muthanna - Qurna - Al-Asmai).
The ministry stated, "The aim of purchasing these ships is to enhance the capacity of the national carrier in transporting all cargoes to and from the country," noting that "there are 40 river boats distributed among all the governorates through which the rivers pass."
As for the port sector at the Ministry of Transport, the ministry indicated that "plans have been prepared to develop the port sector and are included in the paragraphs of the government curriculum, the most important of which is the large port of Faw, which is implemented by the Korean company."
And the ministry stated that "the percentage of completion in the five port berths of Al-Faw reached 41 percent, in addition to the development of the ports of Umm Qasr Al-Shamali and Umm Qasr Al-Janoubi, as well as removing shipwreck from the shipping lanes, and increasing their depths, which makes them accommodate large numbers of ships of different tonnages." .
