Legal expert Ali Al-Tamimi confirmed that Iraq can oblige Turkey to pay the sums it owes for oil exports, especially after the Arbitration Court issued its decision to fine Turkey sums of money for the illegal exports of the region's oil.
Al-Tamimi said in a press interview seen by “Takadam” that “the Paris Arbitration Court decided to fine Turkey an amount of 1.5 billion dollars because it illegally imports oil from the Kurdistan region.”
He added, "Turkey has become obligated to pay the aforementioned amount, and Iraq can take the ruling and take it to the United Nations for implementation in the event that Turkey refuses to do so."
He added, "Iraq can turn to the United Nations, especially since there is an oil agreement in 1958 for the implementation of international arbitration, and based on Article 102 of the United Nations Charter, Iraq can force Turkey to pay the aforementioned amount."
