Earth News / The First Lady of Iraq, Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed, condemned the “cowardly terrorist act” that took place at Sulaymaniyah International Airport, revealing that Baghdad is trying to use the airspace of another country instead of using Turkish airspace for the arrival of planes.
Ahmed said in statements to reporters on the anniversary of her father’s death, followed by Earth News, “I condemn the cowardly terrorist act that took place at Sulaymaniyah International Airport,” indicating that “Turkish officials say that terrorist activities in the Kurdistan region and Sulaymaniyah have increased. I say yes, that Turkish intelligence is that kidnap people in the middle of the day.”
And she added, "If the region collapses, it will collapse on the heads of all parties, and if Turkey prevents planes from coming to Sulaymaniyah, then Erbil should not allow planes to land there."
And she revealed, “Now in Baghdad they are trying to use the airspace of another country instead of using Turkish airspace for the arrival of planes,” pointing out that “the regional government’s statement regarding the Sulaymaniyah airport incident did not carry any government character.”
Earlier today, Saturday, the Presidency of the Republic expressed its condemnation of the attack on Sulaymaniyah International Airport, while calling on the Turkish government to take responsibility and make an official apology.
And the Presidency of the Republic said, in a statement, “Turkish military operations against the Kurdistan region are repeated, the latest of which is the bombing of the Sulaymaniyah civilian airport, and while we condemn these blatant attacks on Iraq and its sovereignty, we affirm that there is no legal justification that authorizes the Turkish forces to continue their approach of terrorizing safe civilians under the pretext of the presence of opposing forces.” on Iraqi soil.”
The Presidency called on the Turkish government to "take responsibility and offer an official apology for these actions, stop these attacks and solve their internal problems by opening the channels of dialogue with the concerned parties," stressing by saying: "In the event of the recurrence of these attacks, there will be a firm stance to prevent their recurrence in the future."
Earlier today, Saturday, the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, called for restraint after quarrels between the two Kurdish parties following the Sulaymaniyah International Airport attack.
The Presidency of the Kurdistan Region said in a statement, "The Presidency of the Kurdistan Region condemns the incident that occurred at Sulaymaniyah International Airport on April 7, 2013. We are concerned about the repercussions that followed."
And she added, "At a time when we call on all concerned parties to play their role in the investigation of the source of the accident, we call on everyone to exercise restraint and deal with the event and its repercussions correctly, and instead of exchanging accusations, we must work to prevent its causes."
And she continued, "We assure all the citizens of Kurdistan, especially the beloved city of Sulaymaniyah, that protecting their security, stability and livelihood is a priority for the institutions of the Kurdistan Regional Government, and they will not be allowed to fear for any reason."
Earlier, the Kurdistan Regional Government expressed its concern about the attack that targeted Sulaymaniyah International Airport, while holding the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan responsible for complicating the situation in Sulaymaniyah.
"We express our concern about the attack on Sulaymaniyah International Airport. This terrible situation is the result of the occupation of government institutions and their use in illegal activities," said Jutiar Adel, a spokesman for the regional government, in a statement.
The statement added, "The behavior of an authoritarian partisan regime in Sulaymaniyah led to the closure of Turkish airspace towards Sulaymaniyah International Airport and then attacking it, as a result of our citizens in the region paying the price for their mistakes."
He also pointed out that "it is necessary to put an end to these unjust acts, the return of government authority and decent governance befitting the people of Sulaymaniyah and serving the people and their interests, and an end to the complex situation in the region."
Earlier, the head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Pavel Talabani, confirmed that destabilizing the security of the region and the city of Sulaymaniyah is a red line.
Talabani said in a statement: "We strongly condemn the attack on Sulaymaniyah International Airport and the futile attempt by the servants of foreigners, which aimed to destabilize the security of the Sulaymaniyah region."
He added, "The criminal operation and the violation of the borders of the region and Iraq with the eyes and guidance of an internal intelligence security apparatus is not a strange case, and we have a long history with it, but Sulaymaniyah, its history, and Sulaymaniyah and its people are greater than that and more heroic than the hollow imagination of a party of its reputation and spoils the lives of its people."
He continued, "The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan has been patient in the past in order to protect harmony and achieve the higher interests of our people, but the continuation of the inappropriate and unfavorable behavior of some of the security services affiliated with a political party under a self-imposed unilateral government has crossed all limits and brought the situation to a dead end."
Talabani pointed out, "We are proud of being Kurds, and we have carried Kurdistan in our hearts, and we have faced and are still facing all dangers for the sake of our people's lives, and destabilizing the security of the region and the city of Sulaymaniyah is a red line."
And he concluded by saying: “We repeat it again and in a louder voice, either Kurdistan or the annihilation.”
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed, earlier, that the commander of the “Syrian Democratic Forces” had been subjected to two assassination attempts while he was in Iraq.
The Observatory said in a statement: "The commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces survived an assassination attempt, after an attempt to target him from a drone, which is likely to be Turkish, in Iraq."
Earlier, Sertib Johar, one of the advanced cadres of the "Lahore Sheikh Genki" who was excluded from the presidency of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, spoke of the head of the "Syrian Democratic Forces" being subjected to an assassination attempt in the city of Sulaymaniyah.
Srtib wrote in a post: “The commander-in-chief of the SDF, Mazloum Abdi, survived a failed assassination attempt that targeted him in the city of Sulaymaniyah,” without further details.
And the Sulaymaniyah Airport Security Directorate confirmed, earlier, that an explosion occurred in the vicinity of the airport, without recording any human injuries.
The directorate said in a statement: “An explosion occurred near the wall of Sulaymaniyah International Airport at 4:18 pm today, without causing injuries and causing a fire. Civil defense teams at the airport immediately arrived at the scene and controlled the fire.”
"Our forces are currently investigating the incident and will release more information in the future," the statement added.
The statement addressed, "Citizens and tourists, that there are no problems at the airport and that flights and airport operations are taking place as usual."
