Al-Gharawi calls for speeding up the enactment of the Cultural Property Protection Law

{Local: Al Furat News} Former member of the Human Rights Commission, Fadel Al-Gharawi, confirmed that choosing the 18/5 of each year as International Museum Day represents an occasion to recall the importance of museums as a means of cultural exchange, enriching cultures, and promoting understanding and cooperation between peoples.
Al-Gharawi said in a statement that: "These cultural institutions play an important role in preserving heritage and collective memory and introducing what was left behind by the scents of current and bygone civilizations, in order to protect the right of generations to learn from the exploits of civilization and the masterpieces of history."
He added, "The initiative to celebrate International Museum Day belongs to the International Council of Museums, which has been organizing this occasion since 1977, embodying the idea that was crystallized within the framework of the Council's General Assembly meeting in Moscow, to become an international date that upholds the values of art and memory and celebrates the importance of museums and their educational and awareness role." and cultural.”
Al-Gharawi indicated that "Iraqi antiquities and museums were subjected to theft and destruction, the latest of which was what the terrorist organization ISIS did by destroying all statues and museums that contained treasures and historical relics."
He called on "the government to intensify its diplomatic efforts to return all Iraqi antiquities in international museums and to start a project to restore Iraqi museums in accordance with international standards in cooperation with UNESCO."
Al-Gharawi called on "the government and parliament to expedite the enactment of the cultural property protection law to contribute to preserving Iraq's cultural, historical and cultural heritage."
