Shafaq News/ The "Green Iraq" Observatory concerned with the environment announced, on Monday, that there are no financial allocations within the draft financial budget law for the year 2023, while threatening to resort to the judiciary and challenge the law if it was passed without these allocations.

The Observatory said in a press statement, "Our sources in the House of Representatives reviewed the latest version of the draft budget law for the year 2023, and they found that there is no financial allocation for the environment," noting that "the budget is devoid of words about desertification, drought, environmental pollution, and even climate change."
The observatory added, "The funds allocated for the environment are within the operational budget, i.e. salaries and expenses for the Ministry of Environment and its employees," pointing out that "the government violates its government program in environmental issues that have a direct impact on people's health."
"Green Iraq" threatened, "to resort to the Judicial Council to challenge the budget law if it is passed without any investment allocations for the environment and combating climate change."
